Video: The charges against Binance
In December, not long after the Department of Justice announced charges against cryptocurrency giant Binance and its CEO Changpeng "CZ" Zhao, I started writing up an overview of everything that had happened to the company over the past few years. I'd written separately about a lot of it — the CFTC complaint, the SEC complaint, the executive exodus — but wanted one definitive overview.
Several thousand words in, and with no end in sight, I realized maybe a newsletter post wasn't the right format. Separately, I'd been thinking about trying to do more video content — partly because people liked my SBF trial livestreams so much, and partly because I know there are a lot of people out there who might be interested in my work but aren't big on email newsletters or even just written content in general.
So, I turned the piece into a script, and set to work.
Life got in the way a little bit. I needed to learn how to edit video, then it was the holidays, and I ended up having to spend far too much of my time migrating my Substack newsletter to my new home.
But, finally, my first ever longform video! I really hope you all enjoy it:
If you like video content, I've been doing a bit more of it lately, so you can subscribe to my YouTube and/or TikTok if you want to see things right as they come out. Otherwise, I'll keep mentioning in my newsletter posts if I upload something that might be of interest.
For those of you who are not fans of video, I have put the audio-only version on the podcast feed, and I've published the script if you'd rather read it.
Until next time,
